Phase field models for two phase flows with phase transition

Abstract
For the numerical simulation of two phase flows with phase transition we consider two different mathematical models. The first one is based on the Navier-Stokes-Korteweg model. In this case the interface between the two phases are not sharp. The width of the interface is proportional to a parameter δ which occurs in the momentum equation. Now it turns out that (at least in the stationary case) the pressure jump is proportional to this parameter δ. This is not in agreement with physical experience. Therefore we have replaced this Navier-Stokes-Korteweg model by a diffuse phase field model. In that case it can be shown that the jump conditions are correct in the limit δ → 0. For this phase field model, which is based on results of Alt, Witterstein and Dreyer, we have developed a Discontinuous Galerkin method for two phase flows in two space dimensions. Several numerical test cases have been considered and the results will be shown in this contribution.
