MS02 - Recent Trends in Lattice Boltzmann Methods: Boundary Conditions and Applications

Organized by: Matthias Ehrhardt and Salvador Izquierdo

Nowadays in numerical simulations of real flow problems kinetic methods as the lattice Boltzmann method compete against the traditional concepts of solving the Navier-Stokes equation. Especially, the lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) is quite attractive, since an explicit update scheme is not only very efficient in computation, but also fits to modern computer architecture as in graphical processing units. However, each interaction, boundary condition etc. have to be formulated on this kinetic particle basis. In the first half of this minisymposium we will adress the challenging task of formulating boundary conditions in this LBM context, especially for simulating unbounded computational domains. The second half will be devoted to discuss recent applications of the LBM approach.
