MS14 - Efficient computation of matrix functions for exponential and trigonometric integrators

Exponential and trigonometric integrators constitute an interesting class of numerical methods for the time integration of stiff or oscillatory-stiff systems of differential equations. For their application, the matrix exponential and related matrix functions need to be computed efficiently. In the last decade, several ideas including fixed polynomial and rational approximations, time-stepping approaches, contour integrals, polynomial and rational Krylov subspace methods, scaling and squaring, splitting methods, and several more, have been proposed for this purpose. The minisymposium will discuss recent advances in the efficient evaluation of matrix functions in time integration schemes.
